Easy is the operative word.

Whether you are online to build a business or to make connections for other reasons, the easier you make it for people to find you and to get to know you, the more likely it is you will achieve the desired results.

Here are 3 tools that are so simple to set up and use that even I use them. That being said, even though I am not using any of them to their full extent, they are still producing results for me.

Janet Callaway The Natural Networker Twylah

Twylah is near and dear to my heart because the founders, Kelly and Eric Kim, are such delightful and oh-so-helpful people. While Eric and I have exchanged a few e-mails, Kelly is a twitter, tweetchat and facebook friend. We visit most every day on all of those platforms and have ever since we met months ago on a #SMmanners tweetchat hosted by @DabneyPorte.

Before I tell you why I like Twylah, I asked Kelly to send me a brief description of it from her perspective. This is what she said:

“Twylah puts you, as the publisher, in control of your content and your brand. By showcasing your trending topics in a way that anyone can understand, Twylah allows your tweets begin to work for you in ways that go beyond Twitter and into the world of search. Twylah significantly increases the value and half-life of your tweets and gives you the opportunity to receive the SEO benefit from them. How does it get any better than this?”

In other words, Twylah organizes MY tweets and makes me look good. They compile them into Trending Topics I talk about rather than my followers. So, by looking at my Twylah you can see what I tweet about. A further benefit is that Google indexes your Twylah page with all its tweets so you receive SEO benefits. As if that weren’t enough, if you add a CNAME to your domain, you may well find search engines driving traffic to your Twylah.

Social Media Speaker and Author Neal Schaffer of Windmill Networking, explains it all in this post—including his results in Google analytics. Amazing.

Another one of my very knowledgeable social media friends, Jure Klepic, is a HUGE fan of Twylah. In fact, this is what he said about it in a post he wrote:

Twylah is the primary tool I use when I’m looking for potential users to follow on Twitter and when I’m looking for a topic or subject matter over which I can engage with others.”

When someone follows me on twitter, before I follow them back, I look at their bio. If it includes a Twylah, I always click to read their tweets. My Twylah is included in my bio as well as in my signature block in my e-mails.

While Twylah can be a “set it and forget it” tool, if you do that you are missing out on all the other things Twylah can do for you. Do yourself a favor by taking the time to read the two posts linked above.

Scoop.it is a tool I have only recently started using. The more I use it, the more I appreciate it. While I have no personal relationship with the founders, I contacted them yesterday to ask for a few sentences to describe scoop.it and they responded promptly. Aside from the advantages offered by their product, you can expect great customer service from Scoop.it. This is how they describe their product:

Scoop.it is a publishing-by-curation platform allowing our users to publish gorgeous magazines on their favorite topic or domain of expertise. Our aim is to leverage curation to increase their visibility, let them be heard on the Web, to give persistence to their social media presence. They can use Scoop.it like a hub to share qualitative content to their social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn) or their blogs / websites.”

Recently I connected with Phillip Dodd. One of the things I noticed when I visited his site was the number of scoop.its that he maintains. Since he obviously sees the value in it for him, I asked him to share his thoughts. This is what he said:

  1. More Content Consumption ROI–Absorbing huge amounts of content is something that is vital to anyone seeking success with endeavors involving community, social media, blogging, networking, etc. What I like about Scoop.it is that not only does it provide an opportunity to network with some great folks, but it lets you reap the rewards of your Scoop.it network’s hard work.
  2. Free SEO Benefits–Like Twylah, Scoop.it topics can be set to a subdomain of your URL. If you are going to be going through articles anyway, then there’s no reason not to take a second to use the Scoop.it bookmarklet for some free indexed keywords.
  3. Thought Leader Proving Ground–Content is King” is probably the only phrase more cliche’d than “Establish Yourself as a Thought Leader.” By spending a short amount of time each day, you can begin constructing something that will not only provide a large amount of value to those in your network, but it will also go a long way towards establishing you as a Thought Leader!

What I like about scoop.it is the fact that you can “scoop” as many topics as you like. For instance, Jure created a scoop.it on posts during the Klout controversy. Currently, I have 1-1/2 scoop.its. One I use to curate blog posts that are social media or business related while my other scoop.it is in process. It is one I am creating for information on weight loss/management, beating sugar addiction and doing a healthy lifestyle reset. Different markets; different scoop.its.

XeeMe is the third and final tool in this review. Quite honestly, I am way under utilizing this tool. Axel Schultze is the CEO at Xeeme and is very responsive to questions, pleas for help or providing needed education. In fact, yesterday I watched an excellent presentation he put on which made me realize that I have to invest a bit of time to set up my XeeMe properly.

If you are on multiple social platforms, you have multiple URLs. This is where XeeMe puts it together for you showcasing your entire social media presence in a single space. That means if you add a new platform or change a name, you only have to change it in one place rather than on each of the individual platforms.

Remember, the easier you make it for people to find you and to get to know you, the better results you have.

When I connected with Axel on Empire Avenue, I “confessed” to him that I didn’t “get” XeeMe. A short while later he sent me this post which does such a terrific job of explaining it.

Mr. Everywhere, Michael Q. Todd, is the first person who told me about XeeMe and he is constantly telling people they need to have a XeeMe. He has 27 platforms listed on his XeeMe and what he finds is that people connect with him on the platform that most appeals to them. For some it might be twitter while others it might be flickr or Quora. When they see Michael’s XeeMe, connection to him at the platform of the viewer’s choice is available at the click of a button—no searching for the URL.

There you have it, folks, 3 tools that can make a big difference in expanding your social media presence by showing people who you are, what you do and where to find you.

Do you use any of these tools?

If so, which ones and what do you like about them?

If not, did any of these tools appeal to you?

If you think this would be helpful for others, please help me spread the word. “Tweet it” “Like It” “Share It” or “Digg It” or “Stumble” below.

Please do give me your feed back and comments. Let’s exchange ideas below. Leave any thoughts or questions you may have and I will get back with you.

  1. Janet, love your post on helping us all to expand our presence through these tools – and I am honored that you quoted my Twylah post. I was actually introduced to Eric a long time ago but have kept in touch and seen Twylah grow to what it is today. I am bullish on Twylah’s future, and the new social media agency I work for plans to get our Twylah page up even before our website!!! I think it will be the best deisgned Twylah page out there, but I’ll let you be the judge ;-)

As for the other tools, I know the founder of Xee.sm very well as well and notice that they made major upgrades to their platform, so based on what you wrote I will definitely be checking them out.

Scoop.it is intriguing – thanks for introducing it to me!

    Mahalos Janet! Keep being you!

    • Neal, aloha. Thanks so much for your contribution with your post and your insights on your comments. That definitely is a statement that you are getting your Twylah on before the website is up. In fact, that rather sounds like a post on why you would do it.

XeeMe has done a lot and is doing a lot more. In fact, they are opening in Europe on December 15th.

Did I really scoop you on scooop.it? If so, Neal, with your creativity and know how, you will love it. Guillaume, one of the founders of scoop.it, just stopped by and left this fun link: http://bit.ly/tQEyqZ Neal, you will find them to be very responsive. Look forward to seeing your scoops and, no doubt about it, you will be able to dazzle your clients even more.

Again, thanks so much for showing clearly how to make great things even better. Until next time, aloha. Janet

  2. Janet Aloha! Many many thanks for including me in your post! Yes I adore @twylah and till today i did not found any better branding tool for twitter out there. Thanks to Neal I learned how much impact Twylah has on SEO. But the BIGGEST bonus of Twylah is an amazing support that you get as user. Eric and Kelly both are just super fun and they are both always ready to help and guide you. They only bad thing that i can say about Twylah is that once you hooked up to it, you will never walk away, is addiction :) Yes my name is Jure and I am Twylah addict. Hope they open some rehab in SF area soon for me LOL:) Well i strongly recommend Twylah to people who are thinking that they dont “get” Twitter. Go on Twylah and check out their directory you will follow inlove with Twitter.

As for scoop.it i do use them more for collecting interesting posts on topics that i like to read, is clear and all in one place. But personally need to find more time to see all benefits of it as well.

XeeMe is another story for me… i was recently asked about it, and i was shame to answer i dont know how to answer your question. I think and again is just my opinion from what i saw, that is amazing tool. My only problem is that day has on 24 hours if somehow i could stretch my day up to 28 hours i would be able to set it up. I know i am lazy but i would go and do it. PS. Is there any way to get a link of presentation that you are talking about it ?

Well my Janet, and now i need to say #YOUMATTER to me, to our community and to this world. It’s my privilege to know you as Social Media would be less fun without you around me.

    Hugs and respect to you.

    • Jure, aloha. No doubt about it, you are a Twylah addict! With Twylah, Kelly and Eric, the more you experience, the more you want. Crafty, aren’t they?

Jure, as I said I way under utilize XeeMe, however, after watching the webinar on Tuesday, I can see it’s important that I invest the time to learn. And, Jure, it makes so much sense to have all your URLs in one place for clicking purposes. Earlier today I sent Axel a note about the link so when I hear back from him, I will let you know.

Axel tweeted this a while ago and I thought it might be of interest to you:

“XeeMe expands to Europe join us Dec 15 in Berlin for a networking event: http://bit.ly/tL1myd #XeeMe #SocialPresence”

Already XeeMe connects with 192 platforms. Of course, that boggles my mind that there are so many platforms. Hmmm, wonder if Kred is in contact with Axel.

Thanks so much for the comprehensive post I included in this article and your value adding comment. Until later, my friend, aloha. Janet

P.S. Jure, #YouMatter to me and have enriched my life in so many ways. Thank you.

  3. Janet it’s a great post. There’s plenty of articles reviewing tools, but none I’ve read has your “straight-to-the-point” style. after reading you make me feel I need to try them. Thanks.

Because I am not a techicie, Fabrizio, I can only tell people “simple” things about the tools and leave the details to those more expert than I. That being said, what I so appreciate about each of these tools is that even as a non-techie, under utilizing them, I still have results.

All of these tools are well worth the investment of your time to learn. What i would recommend you do is take one tool a week to learn rather than attempt to learn them all at once. All three companies provide excellent service. Have fun. Until next time, aloha. Janet

  4. Hi Janet,

thanks for sharing your insights. I have used XeeMe for quite a while now and it’s a terrific service. I haven’t heard about Twylah and Scoop.it yet but I will definitely check them out because I know if you recommend them, they must be good ;-)

“XeeMe expands to Europe join us Dec 15 in Berlin for a networking event: http://bit.ly/tL1myd #XeeMe #SocialPresence”

Oliver, you will both Twylah and Scoop.it to be terrific adjuncts to your efforts. You can use scoop.it in numerous different ways whether you use it to curate your posts as well as others or as different scoop.its for your post categories.

With Twylah, assuming one of your categories is Blog, you can Powertweet your post so that it is front and center on your Twylah. All you have to do is type Blog and then your tweet. Definitely easy.

Have fun. Look forward to reading more about your cruise and to seeing the videos. Until later over at your place, aloha. Janet

  5. Janet aloha. While I know of Twylah, the other two I had never heard of, so firstly thank you for the overviews of each.

I have to say Janet that I always feel as if another language is being spoken whenever Twitter or Twitter related tools are being discussed. I am one of those who Jure refers to as “not getting” Twitter and I have been on it for years now!

For this reason using tools that are Twitter related don’t make much sense to me.

I seem to always be saying when I find a book that makes sense of Twitter for me then I will be soooooo happy. I have read many and yet I still feel none the wiser. Maybe it is simply a case of of Twitter and I not operating in the same zone.

It’s not that I don’t use Twitter but my use does not go much beyond sharing content I value which I do a lot of.

Anyway Janet I hope that you will not mind my honesty expressed here however I will say that I still appreciated reading your post as it reminds me that I still have much to learn. :)

    • Marcus, aloha. Of course I don’t mind that you honestly expressed yourself; in fact, I would be disappointed if you did anything less.

At even the minimal levels, the tools make sense, Marcus. Leaving Twylah aside, let’s talk about the other two.

Since I know you are on multiple social platforms, with XeeMe it is easy to supply all that info to people. You can end your e-mails with, to find my entire social presence, click here: http://xeeme.com/JanetCallawayHawaii/ and the people can connect with you on the platform(s) they like best.

With scoop.it you would find it a good was to have your posts categorized in one place. You mind have one scoop.it on personal development while another would be on spiritual or intuitive.

None of them take much time, however, you are the only one who knows if they would be appropriate for your purposes. Thanks so much for your candor, Marcus, which is always much appreciated. Until next time, aloha. Janet

      • This is a fantastic post, Janet. I have never heard of any of these tools but by paying a visit to the different websites you mentioned, I have learned a ton of stuff that will make my social media experience more enjoyable.

I’ve also learned a ton by reading your response to the comment by Marcus. I find it quite interesting that with scoop.it you can organize your blog posts categories in one place so that people can easily find your posts for whatever topic they are looking for.

Phillip, if one of your Twylah topics is Blog, what you can do is send a Powertweet after you post and then your new post will be front and center on your Twylah. All you have to do is click Powertweet, then type Blog and your tweet. Definitely easy. Also, since I know you like connecting with people, do connect with Kelly Kim (@Twylah) and let her know this post motivated you to get your Twylah on! She may have some ideas for you or your clients.

Like you, Phillip, I had not invested the time in XeeMe. However, after reading Axel’s post and watching the webinar, I know I need to invest the time to learn it. When you think about it, it makes so much sense. Because I know your e-mail signature contains may links, think how easy it would be to put instead: Fin my entire social presence here: with a link to your XeeMe.

  8. Janet, Thanks for the timely review. I had Scoop.it on my to-do list. Now, I’m definitely going to make it a priority. I’ve been hesitating checking out Twylah. My recommendation would be that you set up your Twylah and tweak it as you go. Since I imagine that one of your topics is Blog, my suggestion would be that you do a Powertweet each time you post so that your new post goes front and center. 9. Thanks for sharing all these great resources with us Janet.

Upon your recommendation I did set up my Twylah account but like you in other respects, I haven’t used it to it’s full advantage. My only excuse is these things are so time consuming and at this particular moment, I just don’t have any spare time.

I can definitely see the benefit of all these tools though. I’m going to have to take one of my weekend days and set it aside to go through all the posts you’ve shared with us here and read more about how these sites can benefit us with our online presence. I have no doubt I’m missing the boat in so many areas.

XeeMe you can start with the basics so that you have one platform with all your URLs. It does make sense. Even though that is all I have done with mine, I still have people connecting with me.

Scoop.it you can have fun playing with in a number of different ways.

As always, I appreciate your coming over to visit me and to comment. Best wishes for a terrific rest of the week. Until later, aloha. Janet

  10. Janet, it is upon one of your earlier recommendations that I have Twylah on my to-do list. I actually have it on my Outlook calendar. My crime is that I keep postponing it because other higher priority tasks jump in front.

First, get it set up and then learn the other things. Assuming you have Blog as a category as i do, each time you post, you can powertweet and your post will be in the center of Blog. All you have to do is type Blog and then your tweet.

Kelly is now following you, Brian, so make the connection with that lovely lady and get going. If Neal and Jure are both so high on it, you know it makes sense for you to invest a few minutes.

    • Franziska, aloha. First bit of advice is don’t attempt to learn them all at once. My recommendation would be to start with Twylah because it is the easiest and least time intensive. Get it started and then add start using the powertweet each time you post because then your post will be front and center. Or, I should say it is on mine because one of my categories is Blog.

Once you get the hang of it, you will have fun with scoop.it adding posts/articles to specific scoop.its.

I started to use it some time ago but apart from the occasional Power tweet, I’m failing miserably at using it to it fullest. I’m going to check out the Neal’s links that you cited.

There are so many curation tools out there that I find myself blocking them out for lack of time to research them fully. Since I do curate content all the time through my twitter account, seems only normal that I would warm up to these.

These may totally come out of left field, but there’s a little voice inside me that sometimes questions the repackaging of other people’s content as your own web page.

This is different than say, Alltop that is a content catalogue.

Having said that, I can certainly appreciate the service it offers in providing an filter for the unmanageable amount of content out there.

Obviously, I have to give this more thought. (I haven’t finished my coffee yet ;-)

Your post are always thought provoking,

Ray, with scoop.it people can subscribe or, of course, you can tweet it. Quite honestly, I see it as a way of giving extra recognition to a post I feel will be of interest to my viewers. Whenever I “scoop” a post, the blog owner receives a notice that I did. Since I have been out of the office most of the day, I have not had the time to collect many scoops. Normally when I am reviewing posts, I have my scoop.it open also and drop the link to posts I like as I go. Here is my social media/business scoop.it

      http://www.scoop.it/t/social-media-sociables/

Ray, I don’t know whether I had responded to Marcus when you posted your comment, however, here is another way to use your scoop.it You can create scoop.its of the different categories on your blog so that all posts related to that topic are in one place. Thus, if Marcus wanted to send someone personal development posts, he could send his personal development scoop.it and it would be very easy for the viewer to access al relevant posts.

We each have to find what works best for us. And, the main thing is to start and tweak as we go rather than being obsessed with having it “right” or “perfect” from the beginning.

Thanks so much for stopping by, sharing your thoughts and letting me know you find my posts thought provoking. Enjoy a fantastic weekend. Until later, aloha. Janet

  16. Thank you, Janet!

We, at Twylah, appreciate being featured along with these other wonderful platforms.

Yes, you can “set and forget” your Twylah, and we love that about it. However, if you do want to create the CNAME and actively promote your Twylah, of course you get even more benefit in terms of traffic and brand exposure.

Twylah is not for everyone, though it IS for people who value their unique contributions and ability to curate and create fantastic content to shape and share.

Many thanks, Janet. You are a shining example of someone with amazing content to share. (And of course anyone can write us at info at twylah.com with questions.)

    • Kelly, aloha. As you know, I am a raving fan of both you and Twylah while Jure, of course, is a self confessed Twylah addict. We love you and Twylah.

With your comment, the posts by Neal and Jure as well as the questions I have been able to answer in the comments, I believe you will find more people making better use of their existing Twylahs or, for those who don’t have Twylahs, getting Twylahs.

With the busy schedules people have it is difficult to know where to focus those “extra” minutes. In the case of Twylah, those few minutes will be well spent.

Best wishes for a magnificent weekend. Until later, aloha. Janet

      Best wishes

  17. Great post Janet! You turned me on to twylah months ago and I love it! Question .. What do you mean when you refer to CNAME w/twylah? I need to leverage twylah more and will do so. Also will look into other platforms you mentioned. You’ve never steered its wrong!

  18. Hi Janet,

I love how you do well-researched posts! I’ve been looking for a tool that could help me expand my online presence aside from publishing my blogs on social media platforms. I’ve never heard of these three but when I read your post, they seemed very interesting. I am currently trying out Twylah, and I have to say that I am really impressed by it. Thanks for never failing to bring information especially to newbies like me.

  19. Truly awesome post, Janet. I’ve been using Scoop.it for some time, but not the other two. I’m off to set up Twylah! Thanks for the great recommendations. Now I just need to hire a personal assistant to keep up with all the cool tools!

    • Jayna, aloha. Welcome to my blog; it is always such a pleasure to greet first time visitors. Jayna, the best part about all three of these tools is they take very little time.

Here’s one of my scoop.its with some great posts on both Twylah and XeeMe. Have fun using them.

Best wishes for a terrific weekend. Aloha. Janet
