Before I tell you what I see as the hidden benefit of blogging, let me ask you why you started blogging.
If you are like most bloggers, you started blogging because:
A. You wanted to create an online presence
B. You wanted to find business partners/clients
C. You wanted to sell something
D. All of the above.
Bloggers may blog for various combinations of these, all of them or because they have to give voice to their ideas and musings.
However, how many of you thought of the tremendous relationships you would build along the way?
Though I didn’t, something similar happened to me before in the network marketing industry.
For a long time I have said that one of the greatest benefits of network marketing is the wonderful people you meet along the way. Some of those people become forever friends while others enrich your life for the time they are in it. No matter the length of time, the richness of the experience and the relationship would not be there without the network marketing connection.
Folks, much to my surprise and delight, this is exactly what I have discovered in the blogosphere.
The blogging community is an amazing place to inhabit. As you go about your business of blogging, you will meet bloggers who are tremendous resources, who inspire you, who entertain you and who make you think.
What’s interesting is that you can be chatting away with these people via blog posts, comment sections and twitter without even realizing where in the world they live.
Let’s face it, if you connect, does it matter where someone lives?
What I would like to do is introduce you to a few of the bloggers from around the world who have made and are making a difference in my life. Because I live in the United States, I am not going to list any of my U.S. blogging friends. For demonstration of the global diversity, I will list the bloggers in alphabetical order by their country.
Australia: Marcus Baker blogs to help people build an internet network marketing business. However, his blog does so much more than that. Marcus teaches life lessons, skill sets, blogging basic and makes you question why you do what you do. Marcus and I have a tendency to write epic comments to each other in response to posts. Quite often as I am writing my post I find myself thinking “wait until Marcus reads this.”
England: Mavis Nong is one of the rising stars in the blogosphere. She is an internet marketer, Attraction Marketing Trainer and her blog is a wealth of information on virtually every aspect of building a business, creating a website and driving massive amounts of traffic to it. Mavis recently released a new product “Underground Blogging Secrets” which is a “must have” if you want to save yourself time and frustration on the way to blogging success.
Germany: Oliver Tausend writes a blog on personal development and financial intelligence for success in the network marketing industry. Oliver shares much of himself on his blog and asks his readers to dig deep within themselves to pull out or release what is holding them back from their greatness. If you want to become “more,” pay close attention to the lessons Oliver will teach you.
India: Jane Sheeba is one of the most prolific bloggers I know. Not only does she blog on her blog with its varied topics, she is a frequent guest blogger—everywhere. Jane blogs about blogging tips and SEO, self improvement, time management and productivity. Believe me, looking at the high volume of quality content that Jane consistently delivers, she practices what she preaches with time management and productivity.
Italy: Diana Simon, a member of the International Coach Federation teaches coaches how to build a business. What she found is that far too often they knew how to help their clients yet they did not know how to help themselves by building a solid business. Aside from her focus on coaches, Diana offers practical solutions and advice for everyone. One of the features that I like is her public accountability program. When you click on her name above, it will take you to an interview she did with me that she posted this past weekend.
Japan: Saul Fleischman Though we connected only recently through Triberr, Saul is working tirelessly with the founders of Triberr, other tribe members and the general public to enhance the experience for all of us. Blogging in both English and Japanese, Saul shares his knowledge acquired from his 20 years of marketing expertise. His straight forward approach on social media makes it easy to understand why or why not to do certain things.
Peru: Samantha Bangayan is a Canadian freelance writer, editor and translator living in Peru. While the primary focus of her blog is her life in Peru, along the way she asks questions that demand you take a hard look at yourself. Her topics are diverse and well researched. Because she is such a gifted writer, it is always a pleasure to read both her posts and her comments.
Romania: Stan Faryna has been described by colleagues “as a savage entrepreneur, strategic technologist, and online tactician.” To me, Stan is an incredibly generous new friend and master connector. Again, I met Stan through one of my tribes on Triberr. Stan spends a great deal of effort to make sure people connect with each other, that certain blog posts are heavily promoted and offers to help people in any way he can to do anything they want. His blog is actually a novel that he is publishing, chapter by chapter, online.
These are a few of the bloggers from around the world who have become a part of my life.
How about you? Do you find that you have developed numerous blogging friends from other parts of the world?
What other benefits of blogging came as a surprise to you?

Great post Janet. I ultimately found other bloggers that are similar to me from all parts of the world. Blogging ultimately opened my eyes to money making opportunities and has taken me into that aspect of the online world. At the end of the day it all comes down to relationships that we create and build upon … blogging does this globally. Awesome stuff.

You are too kind, Janet. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn your take on some of your “inner circle” people. For example, I have limited communication, but have been very interested in exchanging ideas and so on with Samantha, Stan, Oliver, Mavis… and thus, I appreciate your synopsis of who they are a bloggers and so on – what you know them as. This inspires me to do a write-up on my inner circle. For now, people can, of course, see my @osakasaul/innercircle list for clues…

Saul, aloha. The bloggers highlighted in this article, Saul, are all people who excel at what they do and go the extra mile. Though I have not known them for a long time, from their posts, comments and other interactions I observe, their actions are consistent and congruent with their words. How refreshing is that?
Saul, I look forward to reading your post on your inner circle. So often, when I am reading someone’s post or a comment, I am inspired to write a post.
In fact, that is how this post came about, Saul. Marcus and I were having one of our epic long comment exchanges on his tremendous Oprah Winfrey post, and I started thinking about the amazing people I met through blogging who have become friends.
To me, the natural thing to do was to blog about it thus sharing my thoughts and friends with the world.
Best wishes for a great day, Saul. For now, aloha. Janet
Hi Janet,
What a wonderful post! I whole-heartedly agree with you about the incredible friendships you can build by blogging (as well as network marketing.)
Like you, I have made great friends all around the globe and I recognize some of the names you mention above. They are dear friend who have helped make me what I am today in the blogging world and I am so very blessed to know them.
All the very best!

Ilka, aloha. Thx so much for stopping by and letting me know you agree with me on the hidden benefit of blogging and network marketing.
To me, Ilka, it is such a wonderful benefit that I am surprised it is not talked about more. What I suspect is that these incredible friendships develop and become such a part of you, your life, that you don’t even stop to think about how they began.
Because of our mutual fantastic friends, Ilka, we are now getting to know each other and I, quite frankly, am loving it.
Look forward to seeing you around the blogosphere & twitterverse. Until next time, aloha. Janet
Hi Janet,
The reason why I am still blogging is because of all the friends I have made in the blogosphere. I just enjoy the company, energy, collaboration and can-do attitude. We all know it’s not easy but we are there to lend a hand to help support another blogger.
I thank you for allowing me to interview you and for sharing your words of wisdom! What I have found interesting is that while I am not a network marketer, I still learn so much from you and others in this industry.
So the lesson in this is: Be open-minded and connect with others! You will love the friendship and learn more than you can imagine.
Again, thanks Janet and it’s such a blessing to know you!
All the best,
Diana

Hi Janet,
what an incredible honour to be featured on your list – among all these other great people. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I know all of them except for Stan who is nearly a neighbour
I started blogging because my mentor then told me to do so – the final aim was attracting new business partners and that it is OK as initial motivation. I say “initial motivation” because I think it’s not strong enough to follow through when the going gets tough. There are easier, faster and less complex ways to find these, but probably not better ways. In the online world, there’s temptation to try the next shiny thing all over the place. It requires character and strenght of mind to resists the permanent seduction.
I do well with the attitude that finding new business partners is a by-product of a thoughtful and authentic online presence, just as wealth is a by-product of helping others in one’s purpose.
It’s a challenge for most people that networking is indirect. Sometimes it reminds me of playing at billiards: You don’t deposit the ball directly, but indirectly through the rails and other balls. That doesn’t mean that the player doesn’t have the goal in mind.
Most people want to go the direct way and expect direct results from an interaction with an individual. That’s the nature of direct sales, but is it also helpful in network marketing ? “If you don’t buy from me now, I don’t love you anymore.”
With that being said, it’s such a blessing and pleasure to network with people like you who are – allow me to say that – obsessed of networking, in a positive way, just like you characterize Stan: “Stan spends a great deal of effort to make sure people connect with each other.”
I am glad we connected.
Take care
Oliver

Oliver, aloha. Beginning with your last statements first, I too am so glad we connected. Your posts make me stop, think, question and pull from myself to give you the comment your quality posts deserve. Thank you.
It is interesting, is it not, Oliver, that from a color standpoint we are so entirely different yet we seem to work well together with the differences in each other? To me, Oliver, that is a reflection of the respect and understanding we have for each other.
You are quite right that your “initial motivation” would not likely get you through the tough times of the blogosphere. Also, it takes a while to appreciate the time investment in building the relationships and the network. We both have seen far too often what happens when people pounce on a person they have just met–be it in the online or offline world.
Oliver, I am so glad that you started blogging and that we met in the blogosphere. Best wishes to you, my friend, for a spectacular month. Aloha. Janet

Janet, aloha. Francesco Guicciardini said, “Since there is nothing so well worth having as friends, never lose a chance to make them. ”
Without a doubt, blogging has provided me, as you and any blogger who chooses to recognize this, with so many chances to make new friends.
What a blessing it is to be able to connect so easily with so many amazing people from around the world as your post demonstrates so brilliantly.
I am honored to be included here Janet, firstly because I think you are truly an extraordinary human being who I learn so much from all the time. I am extremely grateful to be connected with you. Thank you.
Secondly, I am honored to be included with so many other wonderful people here, many of whom I know. And those I don’t must surely be as wonderful since they have connected with you Janet.
I am still frequently astounded at how deep some connections run considering the vast geographic distances between us. It just goes to show that energy connections have no boundaries.
When we are authentic and reveal ourselves to others through our posts, comments and networking on social media sites, we attract kindred souls to us no matter where they may be.
Another unexpected benefit of blogging which I value greatly and which is closely related to that of relationships, is the further opportunities I am afforded to appreciate and uplift those with whom I come into contact.
I firmly believe that it’s in recognizing and drawing the greatness out in others that we fulfil a purpose common to us all; to make a difference in the world, person by person.
Janet you have a gift for making all people feel special and important. Stan said it best in these words, “You shine. Janet!”. Thank you for bringing plenty of “shine” to my life.

Marcus, aloha. Of course, you know that I love that quote; how true it is.
Elmar referred to our world of blogging as a global village and I quite like that description. It conveys the vastness and the closeness of it at the same time.
You are so right that we meet people from around the world, exchanges ideas, thoughts, comments and building life enriching friendships. It seems that no matter how we first approached blogging, we do all end up with extraordinary connections.
Something else that I find interesting, Marcus, and it is so like attending a party, we “hang out” with the people/bloggers we like. Where we spend our time, is our choice.
Needless to say, Marcus, I am in complete agreement with you on your statement:
“I firmly believe that it’s in recognizing and drawing the greatness out in others that we fulfil a purpose common to us all; to make a difference in the world, person by person.”
Thank you so much for your kind words, Marcus. They are treasured as I treasure you. Until next time, my friend. Aloha. Janet

Aloha Janet!
Great post!!! I started blogging as a way of sharing my experiences as a nice guy salesman. I valued customer service, integrity, knowledge, motivation, drive, initiative… All things that I saw declining in sales across the board.
But then, I started to realize that being a nice guy doesn’t relate to just being a salesman, it relates to all walks of life. While I may share a lot of personal information, I hope that if anyone stumbles across it, they may use it to better themselves OR as it reads in my header “feel comfortable in their own skin”.
I have met some INCREDIBLE bloggers along the way. My life has been bettered by the people i’ve met through blogging, Twitter, and Facebook. I’ve been able to connect with others and bounce ideas off of them, I’ve been able to learn and teach along the way.
Just as with your blog Janet, I’ve learned and broadened my outlook on life and the way I perceive things because you are looking at things through a different set of lenses. If two heads are better than one, then the millions of bloggers are better than one as well
Have a great day!
Justin
Justin, aloha. “If two heads are better than one, then the millions of bloggers are better than one as well.” Justin, I absolutely love that statement.
Like you, Justin, I have met some incredible bloggers and amazing people through various social platforms. How fortunate we are to have a world of relationships at our fingertips.
Thx for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, Justin. Look forward to connecting with you again soon. Aloha. Janet
Janet, omigoodness! Thank you so much for featuring me in this post! I feel so honored, not only to have my name on your blog, but also to be listed among such amazing personalities that I have also admired. (Stan is the only person on your list that I haven’t connected with, but I just know that I’ll admire him too!)
As you know, I started blogging to document my time in Peru. Making real connections with bloggers and Internet users around the world was certainly a surprising benefit as you describe it. I love how Marcus mentions the power of authenticity and revealing ourselves. I never imagined that I could develop real, valuable friendships and meet “kindred souls” online.
For me, another surprising benefit of blogging was how my posts turned into sources of reflection for me and conversation with others. I started off by sharing my thoughts as they entered my mind, but now I always try to tackle a question that I want to reflect on myself and my thoughts only grow and develop as I converse with others through comments.
Thank you so much for our friendship, Janet! =)

Samantha, aloha. You are most welcome; it was my pleasure to include you in this list of my blogging friends.
This statement of yours is the exact hidden benefit of this post.
“I never imagined that I could develop real, valuable friendships and meet “kindred souls” online.”
What’s interesting to me, Samantha, is that over the time I have been reading your blog as well as getting to know you through tweets, e-mails and more, I have noticed how you are using your blog more and more to think something through. It’s a great process because you write down your thoughts and then you will have many people sharing their thoughts of the same topic. Sam, I should imagine that most often by the time you finish typing your post and reading the comments, the question is resolved.
Samantha, I value our friendship. It has been pure delight getting to know you. Until next time, my friend. Aloha. Janet
Hi Janet!
The Internet has become a global village that there are no more borders in terms of bridging relationships all over the world! This is what’s great about the blogging scenario. You get to exchange thoughts and ideas, share interesting content and tidbits of information, and really connect with them one way or another.
It’s often amazing to note how diverse everyone really is in the blogosphere – from race, to nationality, to location, to age, to interests – yet, they all belong in one online community.
Coming from Belgium, I’m so blessed to be frequently interacting with bloggers from the US, Australia, Germany, Hawaii, Canada, just to name a few and the insights I’ve been getting are as diverse and interesting as well!
I guess it’s that hidden benefit that we are all enjoying!
By the way, do check out my latest post for some surprise that awaits you.
(Another great benefit of blogging, I assure you!)

Elmar, aloha. Your phrase “global village” is terrific. What a perfect term for the blogosphere.
It is amazing, isn’t it, Elmar, the tremendous diversity that you see–age, race, country, interests, and more? Though I do read the About page when first starting to read a new blog, if someone doesn’t have an obvious country identifier, I do not search for one. On more than one occasion, I have found myself exchanging comments with some for months before I realized they were outside of the U.S. How perfect is that?
With people from so many varying backgrounds communicating so openly, you do have the opportunity to see so many perspectives on the same situation.
Elmar, thx so much for including me in your post; I’m honored.

Wow! Janet, I think that I am the last one to respond (I mean, among the ones that are mentioned in this post).
Janet, it is amazing to see how as bloggers we are connected so closely even we are on the opposite sides of the globe. That is the power of online connections. And without simply connecting, since we are all blogging, we express, provide usefulness, prove what we are good at, prove what we are not good at (happens sometimes
) and be just open and tell to people who we are!
I just think that being like this makes my life awesome since I am visible as an authority to the whole world, while I am not physically doing anything for that!
Janet, I am so happy for the people you have listed here. They all deserve a mention and I am glad that I am friends with them. Though, I just came to know that Stan is from Romania
Cheers,

One of the commenters referred to bloggers as a “global village” and I find, Jane, that I quite like that phrasing. It expresses the vastness and the closeness of our blogging community. In fact, I chatted away with you for months before I realized that you are in India. Once I noted it, I thought “wow, that’s interesting” and that was that. It made no difference in our relationship.

I admire you for such a wonderful blog. I did make me realize something; be more open-minded. Certainly, blogging can be a real good business, a great way of putting you in the spotlight and as you enjoy writing down your thought, it reflects your true self to everyone else.
Elley, aloha. Welcome to my blog; it is always such a pleasure to greet first time visitors. Thank you so much for your kind words which are much appreciated.
If you read the comments, you notice that while people started blogging with one intention it seems that almost inevitably our blogs turn to our personal reflections. People connect with people and they connect most effectively through stories.
Before replying, Elley, I took a quick trip over to your blog. WOW! Not only do I love the images you select, I love the clean look for your blog. Will be over soon to read more and to comment. Until then, aloha. Janet
Wonderful post Janet and I know that all the people listed above appreciate the mention.
You are right, this is the best place on earth to meet other people. Not only have I had the privilege to meet some of the same people you mentioned above but others as well. I’ve connected with a really cool guy who lives in Thailand with his family, another blogging friend who is studying in China and a guy who lives in Norway and is a professor! I think it’s so fascinating to learn about these different cultures and just interacting with these people is a privilege. I get to learn even more.
I started blogging because I was told to “brand” myself and although I got a really slow start, it’s turned out to be the best experience I’ve ever had. Like you mentioned, it’s a fabulous way to meet so many wonderful people from so many different places. I’m so honored to be among them all.

We met 3 years ago and I’ve never for gotten

Well I new from there he was a different kind of man.
I was very please to work with him on a group called
PayUp on yuwie. But things didn’t work out and you can’t
help some one if they don’t want the help.
He is ever thing you have said and more. He is a kind
and caring person. He is a good leader and mentor. He
has helped me with so much and has even pushed me out
of my conferred zone. If it wasn’t for Stan I wouldn’t be back
blogging today and after reading some of my old blog post and
seeing how I helped so many people I just new I had to go back
to blogging.
I’ve become friends with so many people from blogging.
I’ve to say blogging is better than the old way of making
friends threw the mail as pen pals had quite a few of them
as a teen now the internet lets us connect to ever one all over
the world like one big happy family.

Hey Janet,
You are so right!
I wrote a facebook note sometimes back about Overnight success and that success in MLM need not be measured in dollars alone, but that have seen that the amazing friendship people will form as a result of the industry would make the hardwork in the industry worth the while.
I remember back at the beginning of this year, Marcus was at the Uk and he fell ill and OMG I was thinking and praying for him every minute. I could not imagine I could do that for a fellow blogger I had not even spoken to before. It was so intense.
I once heard a statement that goes something like we all have an invisible placard that cries ‘Please love me’ and I see that personified online. The closely knitted groups we form is just phenomenal. How did I meet you, Janet?
Well that says it all, doesn’t it?
Cheers!

Hey Janet,
Blogging has been a very lovely journey no doubt about that! I met Diana and Samantha through a blogging club and they are just so lovely! I met you through Diana!
The first blogging buddy I have had is Janine Ripper from Australia, we adore each others blogs so much that we have started a blogging challenge together too! Also, her writings and reflections has inspired me to pursue a course in writing – something I always wanted to do!
So blogging is much more than coming up with posts every other day!
